Personal Journey
This is a brief chronology of my own personal journey. I have not captured all of the experiences, people, books, films, etc. that have shaped my thinking over the past several years. I wanted to capture an evolution and the move towards ethics and instructional design. These are two of the resources I mentioned that helped shape my thinking around design justice:
-
Amy Collier's article, "Inclusive Design and Design Justice Strategies to Shape Our Classes and Communities"
-
Sasha Costanza-Chock's Design Justice: Community-Led Practices to Build the Worlds We Need
Design Justice Network - Instructional Design Working Group Journey
#1: Starting A Working Group
The proposal that was drafted and sent to DJN to be accepted as a working group.
#2: Visioning Session #1
We used this to support us early in our journey to help think through what we wanted to create and how we each were going to bring our own energy into the space.
#3: Event #1: Book Club
We created a very simple website (LinkTree account) to be able to easily share our registration and book club documents with people.
#4: Visioning Session #2
Visioning Session - Miro Board
Visioning Session - Presentation Video
We hosted our first open visioning session with anyone who had attended our book club at least one time. We asked the group to imagine "what" and "how" we might be able to co-create a year from now.
#5: Collaborative Journal Article
We decided to propose a journal article based on our experiences of collaborating together to form the DJN Instructional Design Working Group. Our proposal was submitted in December 2022 and we are working to submit the final pieces in March 2023.
