Starting the Working Group

Logistically, getting started was more challenging than we had originally planned. Four people who lead busy lives were trying to collaborate, organize schedules and decipher what our next steps would be once we agreed to joining DJN. One of our biggest decisions came in deciding whether we were going to be a "node" or a "working group". Since we were not central to any one location, we opted to fill out the proposal for a working group. During this time, the part-time staff, Victoria Barnett and Simone Taylor, were invaluable in helping us work through the proposal and make sound decisions.

I have included the original write up of our proposal. It speaks to the nature of our ideas around our audience, the issues we were all facing (and continue to face) and what our hopes were/are in bringing this group together under the DJN and supported by the 10 Principles as a framework for decision-making and guidance.
